Oh Hai

Posted by Lynnster on August 27, 2008

I am just knee-deep in fifteen tons of stuff right now and don’t really have any time for anything but the HAVE-to stuff right now.  That’s my explanation for the quiet.

Well, that and I don’t really have anything to blog about at the moment.  I could gripe about the fact that I got the phone call last night from the ex that I knew would eventually come (because it always does, eventually) and had dreaded for the last nine years, but I really don’t want to talk (or think) about that either.  It went okay, I suppose, depending on what your definition of okay is.

And a few weeks ago one of my e-mail accounts started getting overloaded suddenly with Greek spam, which I find the phenomena has now wended its way to my blog comments and the Akismet bucket.  Weird.

Other than that, I got nothing.  Newscoma’s down sick this week and posting all kinds of wacky stuff from the newspapers over there as well as other interesting stuff – go visit her and see.

More new Westerberg tunes. That’s blog worthy. :)

A call from an ex is pretty blogworthy in my book. I hope it went okay and didn’t dredge up a lot of stuff you didn’t want to have to think about.

Saw this and thought of you. Sorry to be bearer of bad news.

NEW YORK (Aug. 28) – Steve Foley, who played drums with the Replacements at the tail end of the alternative rock band’s career, died during the weekend of August 23 in Minneapolis. He was 49. According to local media reports, Foley died after accidentally overdosing on prescription medication.

Steve Foley, Aug. 23: The bespeckled drummer from Minneapolis will always be known as the replacement Replacement for his brief tenure after Chris Mars left the beloved band in 1990. His death at 49 is being attributed to an accidental prescription drug overdose. He appeared in one video for the band, the visually quirky ‘When It Began,’ pictured.

The 1990 selection of Foley, who played in such Minneapolis bands as Curtiss A, Wheelo and Snaps, as the substitute for original Replacements drummer Chris Mars has become the stuff of legend.
According to Jim Walsh’s oral history “All Over But the Shouting,” frontman Paul Westerberg and bassist Tommy Stinson bumped into Foley at a local bar and procured a ride from him to an audition. In the car was a copy of the brand new Replacements album “All Shook Down,” prompting Westerberg and Stinson to look at each other and then exclaim to Foley, “You’re already in.”
Foley toured with the band until its final show on July 4, 1991, in Chicago’s Grant Park. Afterward, he and his brother Kevin joined Stinson’s band Bash & Pop. Of late, he was working as a car salesman in Minneapolis.

Kathy – Yeah, I had been so snowed under I didn’t know about it until I saw it on your site, then I had to go download it of course and blog about it! Love it, love it, love it.

Churlita – Honestly it wasn’t that interesting a convo unless you know intricate details about the parties most discussed (besides me & him, my current/his ex-best friend and my current’s ex/my former best friend). And it was kinda bizarro. And he was very, very drunk. But you’re right, it may be blogworthy when I’m in a better frame of mind for writing about my Bizarro Week that week (he did call back and apologize the next night and really didn’t remember most of the previous convo).

Sharon – Thanks so much, I e-mailed you back, hope you got it…
